Generations

Have you ever thought about how the small decisions your parents, grandparents, or even distant relatives made in the past might affect your life today? I've had this on my mind a lot lately.

It started when I was explaining the idea behind Be At Ease Co. to a friend.

He said he loved how it has a generational element to it because so much of who we are today is because of those who came before us.

And he could not be more right.

Decisions that the generations before us make have the potential to set us up for success or failure.

I recently had a close family member pass away who was an incredible leader within our family. The family and friends that spoke at her funeral talked over and over again about how well she set up our family for success. Her brother, who is my grandfather, talked for a long time about how much of an impact she had on his life and how much different his life would have looked without her belief in him.

She spurred him forward.

He could have gone down a long, dark road, but the influence she had on him was the reason he believed a lot of things he did. Her wisdom and leadership set him up for all he was able to accomplish in life.

That inevitably turned into him setting up my dad and in turn, me.

And then, on the other side of my family is my great-grandfather, who often said the phrase that this company now revolves around. This phrase has been woven into the fabric of my family because of him and we could not be more grateful for his influence on the way we live.

I am sure neither my great-aunt nor my great-grandfather had any idea what hung in the balance as they helped their siblings make daily decisions or simply told people to "be at ease," but they were slowly paving the way to where we are now.

It may not seem like much, but we make small decisions every day that could impact the generation that follows us.

Don't take the time we have with them for granted. You never know what could hang in the balance.
